Wilmington, MA, November 20, 2016–   In a collaborative effort to increase awareness of computer science in schools, the Wilmington Public Schools Technology Department is joining the global movement to reach tens of millions of students to encourage them to try “an Hour of Coding” during the week December 5-11.  The Hour of Code is a one-hour introductory course designed to demystify computer science and show that anybody can learn the basics of computer programming. The goal is to have students take part in grade level specific activities. Code.org has created online resources for participants to use during the National Computer Science Week (December 5-11). These are very simple, easy to follow lessons that are student friendly.  The online resources can be found at https://code.org/learn
Our district-wide goal this year is to introduce every student in the Wilmington Public Schools to an “Hour of Code” and be part of the goal to reach over a 100 million students world-wide by the end of 2016. If you would like more information, please contact Anne-Marie Fiore at the Wilmington Public Schools or email at [email protected].
The Wilmington Public Schools is a high-performing district where all students are provided opportunities to learn through high-quality, rigorous curriculum and engaging, personalized instruction delivered in a safe, supportive, inclusive environment.  All members of our school community work together to develop confident, empathetic, life-long learners and responsible citizens.  Our students become innovative, creative, collaborative problem-solvers capable of making positive contributions to society.
