CHELMSFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS CODE WEEK CELEBRATION
Students will experience the thrill of coding
Chelmsford, MA– From December 7th and December 13th, students will experience the thrill of coding during Chelmsford’s 2015 Hour of Code Celebration!
During the week, students will have the opportunity to further their learning of the basics of computer science. Computers are everywhere, and these basics help nurture creativity, problem-solving skills, and prepare our students for any future career. Students in grades 1 through 8 will be participating in the code week event. At Chelmsford High School, students will be invited to the library for coding activities.
According to Executive Director of Technology and Information, Anne-Marie Fiore, “last May, the Chelmsford Public Schools was chosen by Code.org to launch a partnership which will expand our current teaching of coding to Kindergarten. The partnership will provide teachers with professional development to help students in grades K-5 learn about computer science in a format that is fun and accessible.”
Teaching students how to code augments their skill set, whether they are college or career bound,” Superintendent Jay Lang said. “In an economy that is growing with digital computing technologies, coding is a crucial skill; one that all students should have an opportunity to learn”, stated Lang.
